A celebration of 140 years of the April Uprising in New Lexington, the birthplace of Januarius MacGahan, the first Western journalist to decry the Turkish atrocities in the uprising.

The MacGahan Festival   June 10-11, 2016

Friday night: Knights of Columbus Hall

Saturday morning:

Memorial service at the grave of MacGahan 10:30 a.m.

  New Lexington Cemetery at the end of Swigart Street

Floral tribute at the MacGahan statue

                 at Main and Brown Streets across from the Perry County Court House

              Luncheon at 12 noon at the Perry County District Library on Jackson Street

Program:  Potpourri of Projects in Progress

          Southeast Ohio History Center in Athens, Ohio by Tom O’Grady                                                          

    Nellie Sheridan Statue initiative in Somerset by Gwen Young and Sandy Adams 

                Bulgarian Memorial Park in Chicago Honoring MacGahan
